VILLA CORRER-PISANI AND MEVE – MEMORIALE VENETO DELLA GRANDE GUERRA

Situated in the historical structure of Villa Correr-Pisani in Montebelluna, the Memoriale Veneto della Grande Guerra (MEVE) is an interactive and multimedia space dedicated to the conflicts and events that marked the last century of our history since the First World war.

Its exposition, which covers 2.300 sq.m., offers a new way to look at the war in relation to the environment, landscapes, apparatuses and men who took part in it with the main goal of interpreting our present. Created following the example of the Memorial in Caen (France), it represents a unique opportunity on a national level to think about our contemporaneity and about the legacy of a conflict that changed our history and the behaviour of millions of people forever.

An immersive space

A contemporary, experiential and emotional approach characterises the exhibition itinerary. The few “totem” objects are part of a storytelling where the digital component, the virtual reality, the immersive installations, the essential filmographic documentation and the sound-design apparatus allow to live a unique, touching and ever-changing experience.

All didactic activities, starting with the Great War, intend to offer an interpretation of the reality and the phenomena that affect our contemporaneity, contributing to develop in the students a critical thinking and attracting interest on the value of Peace and integration of people.

Thus, the First World War becomes an opportunity to recall 100 years of history.

Didactic and educational goals

  • Enhancing the material and immaterial heritage of World War I in the Veneto Region according to an interpretation in which the local is included in an international context.
  • Improving students’ awareness of the extraordinary scope that World War I had in the determination of the twentieth-century history until today.
  • Educating in Peace as a tool for growth and development of a civilized society.
  • Educating in the active memory and in the knowledge of history as a value for an active citizenship, aware and able to make sustainable choices, respectful of the pluralism and cultural diversity that Europe can express.

The laboratory activities that are proposed aim to strengthen and consolidate the logical and argumentative skills, the relational and critical abilities.
